How to Study the Stock Market

Investing in the stock market will challenge every investor from the rookie to the expert. In fact, the changeability of the market is one of the key features of the market's behaviour that requires all active investors to be sufficiently studious to recognize new patterns.

Here's how to study the stock market so you're amongst the best.

Related: There are specific stock behaviours that are predictable and repeatable. Use the patterns study so you may take advantage of them.

Study techniques

1. Write it down. Create a journal or study book that is your own. You could buy a nice little book from the dolllar store and make it your personal journey. Don't worry about how you write, it is not going to be graded by your grade 4 teacher Miss Gradenko. One other thing, the journey is best fulfilled by actual handwriting, not using a keyboard on some device.

Here's what you write

  • One of the most useful journaling techniques is to write down what you think about the market. For example, you have some idea about what is going to happen and what it will look like. Write it down, in detail. It's not about whether you are accurate or not, just that you have the thought. Get it down on paper.

  • Something you learned.

  • Something that went wrong.

  • Something that went right.

Make a List, check it, use it

One of the most significant factors in successful investing is being organized. It means keeping a simple list and using it. You might be surprised at this, but it's easy to forget about a stock over time as it doesn't have the appeal of something new.

Lists include the following

  1. Leading stocks.

  2. Market averages for the stock market, bond market, commodities and currencies. A separate list for country ETFs is useful for the occasional review.

How to create watch lists

In stockwatch.com - use the 20x quote listing feature. It's in the sub-menu under quotes.

Copy symbols and paste them into the list. Use some kind of prefix that you will remember when accessing the list. Use it to see the entire sector or watch list instantly and click on each symbol in the list to see the chart.

Sectors may be found under Winning Stocks in the main menu.

You probably thought you could go sit on the couch and watch the game. Nope, there is                             more coming on how to study and if you thought it would be boring, it won't be. It will be                           as juicy as ever!
